Activities
From research to real-life applications: VALORANT in action
To achieve its objectives, VALORANT implements a structured set of activities combining research, testing and deployment across Northwest Europe.
Development of a joint decision framework
The project will design a comprehensive decision-support framework that brings together:
- Data on horticultural residue availability across regions
- Physico-chemical characteristics of selected residues
- Available recovery and processing technologies
- Potential valorisation markets
This framework will enable stakeholders to identify optimal valorisation strategies adapted to their local context.
Implementation of pilot actions
VALORANT will develop and implement 8 transnational pilot actions to test and validate the proposed valorisation pathways in real conditions.
These pilots will focus on:
- extraction of polyphenols and other bioactive compounds
- conversion of residues into proteins via insects, algae or fermentation
- production of biochar, biofuels and biogas
The pilot actions will generate data to assess:
- technical feasibility
- cost-effectiveness
- environmental impact (including LCA and LCC approaches)
Development of tools, training and matchmaking
To ensure uptake and scalability, VALORANT will deliver:
- a digital application supporting the use of the decision framework
- a training scheme targeting farmers, processors and end-users (with at least 300 participants)
- matchmaking activities connecting stakeholders across the value chain
These activities aim to strengthen knowledge transfer, collaboration and adoption of innovative solutions.
